2022 year in review

When I sat down to write this, my first thought was a meme that I’ve run across at least 3 times every night during my evening doom-scroll. It goes something like - “How does it feel to be 30 days from 2023 and still processing 2019 which was almost 4 years ago”.

For those of us in digital marketing, it feels more apt to say: “How does it feel to still be processing updates that were 6 iOS updates + 5 algorithm updates ago?” Needless to say, navigating this new territory has been strenuous. As digital content creators we have had to become video content creators overnight and learn how to help our clients navigate adjusting their spend and budgets to accommodate new social platforms and say goodbye to others.

There really was never a dull moment. And so I have never been more proud to share the accomplishments below:

2022 accomplishments

  • As an agency, KAR Creative grew over 300% YoY.

  • In January of 2022 we launched a complete studio rebrand, a symbol of the serious dedication to utilizing strategic insights to propel and build brands. The idea was to go beyond creating social content, and become a strategic partner for our client’s growth and long-term success by building meaningful community led by their key product differentiators. I’m confident in saying that we’ve done just that.

  • Over the last 12 months, our team has worked with over 15 brands across wellness categories to help increase their digital presence through organic and paid social management, short form video, photography, design and brand strategy.

  • And of course, we pivoted (head-first) into utilizing TikTok for our brands, resulting in explosive growth (in one case it included a 25.51% increase in engagement on the platform and 7,000% growth).

And while the numbers of it all are impressive, at the core of the work we do is a unique (and inspiring) opportunity to build relationships - with our clients, their communities, and with our internal team.

When I look back at the last year, I am most proud of some of our perhaps our littlest wins:

  • 1 million views on a TikTok of Drake drinking Pop + Bottle (all started in a Slack channel)

  • Seamlessly transitioning to new PM tools (three times) - thanks Sam.

  • Setting up and tearing down Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years in a single day reels shoot.

  • Onboarding three incredible new team members

  • And always, always finding a reason to laugh despite the madness.

It’s been a wild ride. But I feel lucky to be on it with some of the most graceful and talented teammates and some brilliant clients - I really mean that.

so what’s next?

I would be remiss after sharing all about the rapid change that has happened in 2022, if I didn’t mention how we plan to tackle these changes moving into 2023.

It isn’t lost on us, that as the social and digital landscape continues to change, our clients are spending more and more to keep up with the requirements of content and digital creation. With increased spend, there is a desperate need to synthesize strategies and build long-term content solutions. With this in mind, in 2023 our offering will pivot to center brand and digital strategy.

We will continue to help our clients with Organic Social, Paid Social, SEO, Web Design, Email and more - but will spend the first 60 days of each of our contracts strategizing the best channels and investments for each brand in order to create sustainable growth strategies that deliver on our clients goals and build eco-systems of content that drive consumers along the path to brand evangelism.

I am more excited than ever to see how the changes in our digital landscape will fuel expansive growth for our clients and can’t wait to see where we are a year from now. Thanks for being a little part of our journey as a studio.

To 2023,

Kennedy, Founder + Creative Director of KAR Creative
